Hello again!
Well, I didn't climb Ben Nevis - got violently ill that morning so I basically stayed in bed for most of the morning and afternoon. Felt a little better later in the afternoon, but decided not to risk it. The hostel we were staying in was really nice - the staff were great, and it had a very relaxed atmosphere - there was even a pub in there! Anyway, D and I have been on the go for so long that it was kind of nice just to take a day and relax. We had beautiful weather again, in Fort William - who would have thought that you can get a tan in the highlands?
The next morning, we headed to Culrain - on to Carbisdale Castle! I drove all of the way there - is was a great drive! I'm certainly going to miss our little car - Queen Maeve! She corners like she's on rails... ;-) The drive was full on winding roads, so it was a lot of fun - and 12% road grades - and whatever comes up goes right down again! We got to Carbisdale Castle at around 1 pm - toured the castle for a couple of hours - and honestly - wasn't that impressed. Because this was a Scottish Youth hostel the rules were much stricter there - and there were a lot of families there as well. So after a couple of hours touring the "castle" - and I use that term lightly - we took a walking tour around the castle - once we got down the road a bit - low and behold! There's a sign to a pub - finally something to do! So we walked across a foot bridge that was part of a train bridge (those of you who know me well, know I hate bridges.... so it was a little bit of an adventure keeping my stomach from knots) once we got there - the pub was closed! Oh well, we headed back to the hostel, ate supper, then decided to drive to the pub. Well, it took us longer to drive there than walk there, so we turned around and parked the car back at the castle, and walked back (over the bridge) to the pub. Had a couple of pints, and headed back.
We woke up early the next morning to drive to Glasgow - the last stop in our adventure. The drive was long, but it still was beautiful - rain and all ;-)
We stopped for lunch a little late - around 2pm at MacDougall's landing. It was very beautiful there - surrounded by the green mountains.
Once we finally found the hostel (um... I had a little adventure trying to read the map... cough cough... ;-) - the parking was free! YAY!!!
Walked around Glasgow for a bit - our beds weren't ready yet because of the Buddhist convention - walked back to the hostel, unloaded the car - then headed to a pub to have a pint. The pub was called - Ben Nevis! I have a fealing this is going to haunt me for a little while - not going up that mountain. Next Time!
well, it's our last day here - and we're getting ready to walk to the city - and tomorrow - the adventure begins with trying to find the airport!
this is probably be my last post - I will update the pictures once I get home...
See you soon!
